Collector's Gold: Member of Qatari Royal Family Owns 7 Unique Porsche 959 Supercars
I can't imagine what it must be like to own not just one, but SEVEN of the rarest Porsches in the world. I'm talking about the legendary 959 here - you know, the one that helped cement Porsche as the king of supercars back in the 80s. Production was so limited that finding even a single 959 for sale is like catching a glimpse of a unicorn.
Yet apparently tucked away in some anonymous Qatari garage lies the mother lode - a complete private collection with not one, not two, but seven customized 959s. Can you believe it? And we're not just talking any old 959s either - each one was specially commissioned decades ago by some royal hotshot in the family. I mean, to have that kind of cash and influence way back then to get Porsche to build you seven exclusive versions? That's the kind of wealth most of us can only dream about.
It really makes you wonder what else might be hiding behind the closed doors of Qatar's fancy palaces, you know? If one family member could drop who knows how many millions to satisfy their petrolhead fantasies with seven holy grails of the automotive world, who knows what other secrets their garage might keep. Not that any of us will ever get to see inside...but a guy can fantasize, right?
There is only one person who owns seven of these super rare cars: A member of the Qatari Royal Family - including a super rare Gold one.
Porsche Exclusive celebrates 33 years since it first started building custom-built cars for wealthy customers. However, even before it established its bespoke division, Porsche had already started creating some one-offs for buyers who wanted something personal.

In 1989, Porsche’s bespoke division carried out one of the most “impossible” orders when a member of the Qatari royal family, Sheikh Abdul Aziz Khalifa Althani, requested that the company build him seven 959s to add to his personal collection. Each car had to be a different color, with a matching interior and a host of other personal touches.
Despite the extremely difficult request, Porsche could not refuse such a VIP client. Seven cars were delivered to the customer and the specific information about them was also of particular interest to the media.
In 2011, Porsche Exclusive celebrated its 25th anniversary and, with the owner’s permission, placed the yellow car – one of the seven 959s – at the Porsche Museum as part of a special exhibition. This yellow car with many real gold-plated details shows the luxury and nobility of the Qatar Royal Family.

In addition to the special gold paint, it also uses a number of other colors for small details such as brown, beige and green stripes that highlight the waist of the car, as well as real gold-plated exhaust pipes. Everything is the same color inside, including the steering wheel, dashboard, leather seats, headliner and carpets. The Sheikh family crest is also in gold and is emblazoned on the steering wheel and the gear shift cover.
Other colors found inside are brown and beige accents on the seats, as well as red wood trim on the dashboard, gearshift and handbrake lever.

However, information about the remaining cars in the collection is very limited. All we have are individual images of the interiors of the remaining cars, like this red Porsche 959.
Qatar's royal family's gold Porsche 959, "unique" but not all
Many people are lucky enough to own one of the most exclusive Porsche collections, but very few of them have more than one 959 in their garage.
The only exception is a member of the Qatari royal family who owns seven unique Porsche 959s, including this ultra-rare gold one.
Porsche Exclusive is celebrating 33 years since it officially started building cars designed specifically for wealthy customers. However, even before it established its bespoke division, Porsche had begun creating a number of one-off cars for buyers who wanted to own a car with their own personal stamp.
In 1989, the company's bespoke division had to carry out one of the "impossible" orders when Sheikh Abdul Aziz Khalifa Althani of the Qatari royal family asked Porsche to build him up to 7 959s at the same time to add to his personal collection. Each car had to be in a different color with a matching interior and a host of other personal touches.
Of course, despite the extremely difficult request, in front of such a VIP customer, Porsche could not say no. From then on, the admiration and respect that the company had for this special customer was maintained for many years after that. 7 cars were delivered to the customer and specific information about them was also of special interest to the media.
In 2011, Porsche Exclusive celebrated its 25th anniversary and, with the permission of the owner, placed 1 of the 7 bespoke 959s at the Porsche Museum as part of a special exhibition. This yellow car (not just painted gold, it has many details plated with real gold) is enough to show the luxury and nobility of the Qatari royal family.
The Qatari royal family's coat of arms in real gold is seen on the steering wheel and the gear shift cover. The interior of the Porsche 959 is also extremely luxurious.
Other colors found inside are brown and beige accents on the seats, as well as red wood trim on the dashboard, gearshift and handbrake lever. These photos are provided by the Porsche Museum's Facebook page and Porsche's archives.
If you’re still curious about the rest of the cars in the collection, you’re probably in for a treat, as very little information has been released. All we have are isolated images of the interiors of the remaining cars, like the red Porsche 959.
Seven one-of-a-kind Porsches, each with their own crazy custom history. And to think they've been hiding away all these years in some fancy Qatar garage. I'll bet whenever the owner opens that door, it's like a little trip back in time to the 1980s heyday of the original supercar arms race.
It blows my mind to think of all the cool stuff that collectors must have gone through with Porsche to make each of their dreams a reality. They’ve forever secured their place in automotive legend as the only people baller enough to pull that off. Not bad for a commission from like three decades ago! Who knows what insane rides they could get now if they asked.
Anyways, it just goes to show that some people truly do live like kings - being able to satisfy their wild car passions on the ultimate level, stuff most of us can only fantasize about. I doubt we’ll ever get to see inside that secret collection. But man, what I wouldn’t give to take just a quick peek at all those one-of-a-kind 959s together in one place. Talk about a turbocharged blast from the past! If it ever did come to light, it would blow people’s minds even today.
